Blythe Schedule Book 2014 and Zebra x Mika Ninagawa Pens

Thanks to a friend in Japan, I recently received my order of the Blythe 2014 schedule book and Zebra x Mika Ninagawa pens from Amazon Japan.

The 2013 Blythe schedule book (top right in pic below) was thinner than previous years with 64 pages and retailed at 1050yen but the new 2014 schedule book is surprisingly a larger B6 (half of the A4 size) with 112 pages. It's a bit more expensive at 1365yen but I much prefer the larger size which makes for easier writing.

There are three versions available this year: Pickle Wickle (which I got), Allie Gabrielle and Coco Collete. I would have preferred Coco Collete but it was out of stock when I placed my order. It's currently available again on Amazon Japan but with only two pieces left. Pickle Wickle and Allie Gabrielle are also available through Junie Moon which ships internationally.


The schedule book runs from October 2013 to Dec 2014. Aside from a zip plastic pocket, it also includes the subway maps for nine cities including Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, railway maps for Tokyo and Osaka regions, conversion charts for Japan clothes and shoe sizes to US, France, Europe and UK sizes.





While browsing Amazon Japan, I came across a set of Zebra pens that feature Mika Ninagawa's vibrant flower prints. Some of you may recall that she collaborated with Shu Uemura for their Sakura collection in spring 2011. Retailing at 700yen each, each comes with four gel pen refills. Pretty nifty stuff!

Blythe Schedule Book 2012

Every year around September, Blythe releases a schedule book for the following year with four different covers to choose from. This year, I picked "Vinter Arden" (left in the photo below) while my friend picked "La La La La" (right). These were purchased from Amazon Japan. They are also available on Junie Moon which ships internationally.

The Blythe doll in Vinter Arden is rocking not just rosy pink locks but also a surprising dash of lime green eyeshadow paired with peach lips.


The schedule book runs from November 2011 to January 2013, with a different theme and doll for each month. The intricate detailing on the customised Blythe dolls never fail to fascinate.

Wonder what adventures next year will bring?



Also included is a sheet of stickers for marking out special occasions.

Blythe Schedule Book 2011

My best mate MP and I have had this tradition for the past few years whereby I gift her with a Blythe schedule book that she uses throughout the next year to keep track of her happening life and extensive travels. I use them too but I'm usually too lazy to update them regularly though I do find them useful for writing down lists such as the beauty products that I am trying to use up.

This year, MP picked Marabelle Melody (left in the pic above) while I decided on Deep Autumn (right). The pic below shows the Blythe schedule books that I used from 2008 to 2010.

Each year, there are four cover designs. The pages insides are identical.

This year, for the first time, a sheet of stickers has been included for marking out various events.


Some people find these dolls freaky but I like their coy sideways glances, thoughtful expressions and the incredible creativity that many collectors show in customising and dressing up their dolls. You can see my post on last year's Singapore Toy and Comic Convention for some fine examples. I don't collect the dolls due to lack of space (thanks to my extensive makeup stash!) but I buy the photobooks and stationery.

This year's convention will be held on 10-12 December and Simone Legno of Tokidoki is already listed as a guest. Wonder if the Tokidoki makeup line will be stocked in our local Sephora stores by then?

Toy & Comic Convention '09

The 2nd Singapore Toy & Comic Convention is taking place from today until this Sunday at Suntec City. I went to check it out today mainly for Blythe and Tokidoki. Blythe's Creative Producer Junko Wong and Tokidoki creator Simon Legno are both gracing the event.


The Blythe booth was easily one of the most popular thanks to the eye-catching array of customised dolls. Unlike the exhibitions in Tokyo where photographs are usually not allowed, everyone was snapping away merrily here.


I know some people find the Blythe dolls freaky with their big heads and huge eyes. I don't collect these dolls but I love seeing all the wonderfully creative designs. It's obvious that a lot of effort is put into every single one, from the hairstyle, to the makeup, eye pieces and clothes.









I got the new Blyth Fashion Obsession book (S$50) and the 2010 schedule book (S$27) and had both autographed by Junko Wong :-) She was wonderfully warm and super friendly! She took the time to shake each individual's hand and ask their name before signing.


The book is supposed to be much cheaper than the price in Kinokuniya which is around S$70. I was especially delighted to find the 2010 schedule books on sale as I have been using these for the past 2 years. I always get one for my close buddy as well, so it's become a tradition of ours. There are 4 cover designs available with identical pages inside.



The Tokidoki stall, on the other hand, was a bit of a disappointment as the merchandise on sale comprised mostly T-shirts, caps, some stationery and Tokidoki for Hello Kitty stuff. There were no bags but I guess you can get these easily at the store in Iluma. Simon Legno will be signing autographs tomorrow but only for 100 people.

Overall, it was quite an interesting convention as there is an interesting variety of graphic art and toys on display. Even SingPost has a store selling its Hello Kitty horoscope stamp collection! Admission is free.
