Pre-Fall Shoe Shopping at Reef!

It's once again time for me to get perilously over-excited and semi-panicky about shoe shopping. This only happens to me twice a year: Pre-Fall and Pre-Spring (you know, those weird seasons that only exist in the fashion world). This means that:

1. Sandal season is NOT over, nor will it ever be, really, because it's always feasible inside.
2. Loafers, oxfords, flats and sneakers are necessities and on my list for sure, but I'd rather croak than put off boot shopping one minute longer.

So, with enthusiasm reaching critical levels of rainbows spilling out of my ears, I'm looking to Reef for my inspiration. Reef's laid-back, West Coast vibe suits my biker/multicultural personal style perfectly. The shoe styles and construction runs a bit on the pleasantly rough-hewn side with visible seams and X stitches, and the colors and natural materials are great. Visual interest is never lacking in any Reef shoe-- you always get a little bit of something special even in the most basic style, such as a ballet flat. The flashes of multi-colored ethnic prints, fabrics and patterns are the epitome of Bohemian.

Two-by-two, read on to find out which pairs have their spots on the ark assured...

First up are two of the coolest pairs of women's sandals I've seen. What can't you wear these with? I really love the texture of the materials that were used to construct them, and also the special attention paid to the padded, stitched insoles. Chicago's weather is historically unpredictable, and when we have our hot days in the Fall, I'll be so glad to have these to wear with loose capris cinched at the calves, maxi tank dresses and various layers up top.

The killer mint green oxford sneaks below might just be one of my favorite pairs that Reef has to offer at the moment. Pastel mint is a surprisingly versatile color for accessories- even if your closet is packed mostly with black, gray and white. These are so much more stylish than many true sneakers and can function in a multitude of ways. They will become the baddest pair of comfortable shoes you own. I'd pair them with a black maxi skirt, white tee and a black blazer-- sleeves rolled up with a cool contrasting lining. And that's just the beginning.

These Tropic Sea flats are incredible. Comfortable, nicely curved almond/round toe with a splash of multi-colored fabric in the back. These take the notion of a classic pair of black ballet flats and take it to the next level. You can do classic with your accessories and still have some personality in them. These babies are the proof.

BOOTS! Sorry, didn't mean to shout. The High Desert Boot in gray is the ultimate, perfect Fall boot. They are the precise shade of gray I love the most- a very cool, light ash-gray. Suede is the perfect material for them, and I just happen to be mad about suede. These are ultra-flattering and cut a slender profile with some architectural interest around the heel. Little silver hardware details and adjustable straps at the top complete them. They are truly beautiful.

Last, the Native Shore Boot- which has a wonderful slender wedge heel and an almond toe. They are done in black leather with that great X-stitching detail on both sides of the boot. The heel is hugged by a narrow stripe of black and white tribal print fabric. One of my favorite features with the Native Shore Boot is the amazing vertical piping stitched on each side. Absolutely stunning, and the kitten-wedge gives you just a little bit of height. I actually wouldn't mind  having a version of these in an ankle-length as well.

La désiluxion

 
Aucun doute possible, rien de plus efficace que l'industrie de la beauté pour nous mettre des étoiles dans les yeux et nous faire rêver ! De beaux packagings, de grandes promesses, du glamour en veux tu en voilà... nous font parfois perdre la raison et craquer pour des produits hors-de-prix. Dans le meilleur des cas, notre enthousiasme à l'usage du soin nous permet de relativiser un peu le craquage mais lorsqu'au contraire le retour sur investissement n'y est pas, c'est la "désiluxion". Ces dernières semaines, j'ai intégré dans ma routine beauté un sérum et une crème de jour, reçues toutes les deux pour tests, et dont les prix sont encore plus obscènes que le comportement de Miley Cyrus depuis quelques temps. C'est dire si l'on frôle l'indécence ! D'un côté, le sérum Hydra Beauty de Chanel qui coûte près de 100€, que je faisais suivre de la crème La Potion Infinie de la nouvelle marque Argentum, un luxe à 169€ quand même. Je crois que c'est bien la première fois que j'utilisais un combo aussi premium, généralement j'essaie de mixer un produit GMS/pharmacie avec un autre de parfumerie pour varier les plaisirs mais cette fois, il faut croire que mon côté "grand luxe" a pris le dessus ! Malheureusement et au bout du compte, un seul de ces deux a rempli sa part du contrat, l'autre ayant plus déçu encore que l'équipe du Brésil au dernier Mondial. Vous avez une petite idée sur l'auteur de cette trahison ? Je vous raconte ça de suite !

Lorsque j'ai reçu le produit Argentum au courrier (il vient tout droit d'Angleterre), j'ai pris une grosse claque dans la tronche (façon de parler hein, il n'est pas sorti du colis une main géante et bien décidée à me claquer le beignet). Je crois que c'est peut-être le plus bel écrin cosmétique que je n'ai jamais vu de ma beauty addict de vie. Un boîtier cloche absolument sublime, d'un noir on ne peut plus élégant. En l'ouvrant, une carte façon tarot (je suis le magicien apparemment, cela me convient à merveille) cache une notice graphique à souhait et d'une modernité folle. Un mini-dépliant so cute dans lequel en dernière page se cache une encoche où est glissée la spatule, noire elle aussi, servant à prélever le produit. Avoir le souci du détail à ce point, c'est presque inquiétant ! Si la personne à l'origine de tout ça se décidait un jour à commettre un homicide, je peux vous assurer qu'on ne pourra jamais l'arrêter var visiblement, elle est du genre à penser à tous dans les moindres détails. Sous ce leaflet, le pot de cette fameuse Potion Infinie. En verre noir, il en impose littéralement d'autant que sa contenance généreuse (70ml quand même, c'est assez rare sur du soin visage, et encore plus à ce niveau de prix) lui confère un effet massif et pourtant épuré à souhait. Paradoxe quand tu nous tiens. Aucune indication n'est inscrite dessus, hormis le sceau de la marque gravé en relief sur le bouchon. Si l'on était au patinage artistique (ou à Danse avec les stars si vous préférez, je ne suis pas sectaire sur les références à deux balles), je crois que je mettrais sans la moindre hésitation la note maximale pour le côté artistique de la prestation. 10/10, rien à redire, c'est un sans-faute. Quel dommage du coup que le reste ne suive pas...

Car il faut bien le dire, la note technique que je lui attribuerai sera elle beaucoup moins généreuse. On a l'impression que c'est Shy'm qui entre en scène au moment de découvrir le pot, puis lorsqu'on l'ouvre, on se rend compte qu'on est en fait devant Marthe Mercadier ! Dès l'ouverture du pot, j'ai su que cette crème et moi, on allait pas être potes sur un point pourtant terriblement important à mes yeux : son parfum. Mon Dieu, ça cocotte les huiles essentielles là dedans ! Si vous aimez ce genre d'odeurs alors aucun souci mais moi qui n'en suis pas plus fan que ça, j'ai un peu déchanté. Mais comme je suis un mec qui aime aller au-delà de ses premières impressions, je n'en suis évidemment pas resté là et j'ai quand même intégré ce soin à ma routine. Du matin en l'occurrence puisque comme La Potion Infinie promet de faire une peau lumineuse, immédiatement liftée et parfaitement hydratée, alors autant ne pas être égoïste en ne faisant profiter uniquement à mon oreiller de ce magnifique visage qui sera le mien !

Sauf que pour profiter de tous les bienfaits de cette crème, il faut d'abord l'appliquer. La faire pénétrer dans la peau quoi... Dis comme ça, ça a l'air simple mais je vous assure que ça ne l'est pas tant que ça ! Je trouve que cette crème a une très fâcheuse tendance à savonner sur la peau, et demande à être massée un petit peu trop longtemps pour être absorbée. Je trouve qu'à ce prix là, on est quand même en droit d'attendre une texture un peu plus moderne. Mais surtout, le plus embêtant, c'est que je n'ai pas du tout constaté les bienfaits qu'on m'avait promis, il y a clairement tromperie sur la marchandise de mon côté. Cette crème est encore plus surfacturée qu'une convention UMP sous Bygmalion. Pour l'hydratation, rien à redire, la crème fait son job (et encore, on est sur le printemps/été, il faudrait voir aussi au coeur de l'hiver) mais par contre, sur l'éclat ou le côté tenseur, je n'ai strictement RIEN constaté (vous avez vu, je fais comme les gens qui s'énervent par texto, j'écris en majuscules pour exprimer ma colère !). Au fur et à mesure - Liane Foly, dédicace à toi à qui je pense à chaque fois que j'écris ces mots - que la quantité de crème restante dans le pot descendait, je trouvais que le produit était de plus en plus difficile à prélever à cause de la forme particulière du pot. Ce que je ne voyais au début que comme un magnifique objet devenait une plaie au quotidien. Vous savez, cela me faisait penser à ces trucs de déco qu'on achète et dont on se rend compte à l'usage qu'ils sont en fait hyper pénibles. Genre un magnifique canapé mais dans lequel on serait toujours mal installé ! En clair, et vous l'aurez compris, je suis terriblement déçu. Very disappointed ! Ce soin avait tout pour plaire, j'aurais tellement voulu l'aimer, vous dire que oui, il coûtait un rein mais que c'était parfaitement normal vu son efficacité. J'aurais voulu que ce ne soit pas moi qui reçoive la carte du magicien, mais le soin en lui-même. Mais là non, la magie n'a pas opéré...

Heureusement, les choses se sont mieux passées du côté du sérum Chanel, à tel point que j'ai eu un petit pincement au coeur lorsque j'ai découvert hier que j'étais arrivé à la fin du tube (grrrrr, on ne remercie pas le pack blanc opaque qui ne permet pas de se préparer à la douleur psychologique ressentie lorsqu'on se rend compte que bah non, il n'y en a plus !). Mais bon, je ne lui en tiendrais pas rigueur car clairement, ce sérum boxe dans une autre catégorie ! Et s'il concoure dans la catégorie des poids plume tant sa texture fluide pénètre en un rien de temps dans la peau (ah c'est sûr que ça change du produit Argentum), il s'impose en revanche comme un poids lourd dans la team de mes sérums préférés. Lui aussi promet d'hydrater et de donner un maximum d'éclat (rien en revanche sur l'anti-âge)... et il le fait. Il procure en effet un véritable glow à la peau, vous constater clairement l'avant / après application, c'est un réveille-teint bien appréciable les matins au teint brouillé. Et puis, que dire de son parfum, beaucoup plus frais et que j'ai lui littéralement adoré. Même s'il est plus classique et un peu moins joli, le flacon pompe présente en tout cas l'avantage d'être pratique et plus hygiénique. Alors bien sûr, on peut sûrement trouver des sérums bien plus abordables, je vous le concède bien volontiers. Mais n'empêche que celui-ci fait vraiment du bon boulot et avec un petit code de 20% de réduction que l'on peut souvent dégoter en pharmacie, c'est un luxe qui pour le coup peut se justifier.

Au final, un peu déçu quand même car j'aurais bien voulu que le produit le plus cher de ma beauty addict de vie m'apporte pleine satisfaction mais bon, ce ne sera pas le cas ! Vous avez déjà connu vous un produit que vous aviez trouvé cher et qui finalement s'était révélé décevant ? Si oui, n'hésitez pas à me raconter votre expérience, je me sentirais moins seul !

Shiseido will release three limited edition Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trios (4000yen) on 1 August in Japan. These are OR316, GR716 and BL215.

Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara Super Film

Fans of Heroine Make mascaras will be pleased to know that the brand will be releasing its first ever film-type mascara which can be easily removed with warm water. Long & Curl Mascara Super Film will retail at 1296yen, starting from 8 August. Formulated with a fast-drying polymer and four beauty ingredients including camellia oil, the 'airy curl' formula is supposed to be more lightweight compared to their earlier mascaras so that it helps to maintain the curl of lashes even with several coats. The brush is designed to deposit the fibres generously on the lashes while curling he lashes upwards.

Ettusais Premium Makeup Line

Ettusais will release a new Premium line designed for ladies in their 30s on 11 September in Japan. Designed to meet their typical skin concerns such as the lack of skin translucency and obvious pores, the Amino Caviar Cream (3200yen, 90g) is supposed to be all-in-one gel cream with seven functions including lotion, beauty serum, pack mask, primer etc. It is formulated with an 'amino premium 7 complex' that includes collagen, hyaluronic acid, royal jelly and three types of amino acids for hydrating benefits. The range also includes a CC Amino Cream (2300yen, 35g), Chiffon Foundation Set SPF20 PA++ (3800yen, 3 shades) and two-toned Luminous Powder (2800yen).

FANCL New Color Makeup Line-up

Fancl will unveil its revamped color makeup line on 20 August in Japan, following the renewal of its skincare and base makeup ranges in March 2012 and April 2014 respectively. The makeup line continues Fancl's additive-free concept, being free of preservatives and fragrance, and comprises 17 products ranging between 448yen and 2900yen.
