Best Things in Beauty : liquid highlighters. II: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector.

this is the Shimmering Skin Perfector by Becca in "Pearl".
i got it last spring because Lisa Eldridge stated it as her favourite liquid highlighting product. i haven't heard much of this brand before. Becca is an australian cosmetics brand founded by make up artist Rebecca Morris Williams. the range is very down-to-earth and consists many products for everyday and work appropriate wear, but at the same time quite unusual with many interesting cream products, which i still need to discover more about.
i ordered this off lookfantastic.com back then, but they don't seem to stock on Becca anymore. however you can still order from beccacosmetics.com (at 45€) or zuneta.com (for 32£).
the official website says about this product:

"A water-based moisturizer with an SPF of 20+ and light-diffusing particles of shimmer that creates instant radiance and vitality and reduces imperfections.

Make-up Artist Tip:

Apply as a base over the entire face and add a touch of Compact Concealer to blemishes if required.

Set with Fine Loose Finishing Powder for a natural looking glow.

Mix with a small amount of Luminous Skin Colour for a radiant complexion.

Use to highlight cheekbones, brow bones, and temples by dabbing over foundation and powder for an extra-dewey look.

For maximum shimmer and radiance, apply over a BECCA Primer and leave skin unpowdered."

it comes in a matte plastic bottle with the typical metal Becca medal on the cap. it has a second cap inside. the pump is good, you can control the amount you get. the bottle contains 50ml.

the double cap system is very hygienic and especially convenient if you want to take it with you and leave the big cap at home to have more space in your make up bag.

there are 5 different shades, i got it in Pearl which Lisa Eldridge recommended for lighter skin tones (but still am quite curious about Opal).
the consistency of this is creamy, it's white with a white pearl and tiniest multicolour shimmer, which you can't detect as this when it's on your face. it blends out beautifully and leaves a silky glow.
i love it most to mix into rather matte or dull foundations to make them a little bit more sheer and to give my complexion a very natural but beautiful illuminated sheen. there is no visible shimmer or greasy silverish cast, but a soft glow that evens your skin and make you look awake and healthy.
for the purpose of mixing in with foundation, i'm glad that the bottle contains so much product (50ml).
sometimes i also use it as cheekbone highlight and for the cupid's bow with a dense synthetic brush (i usually do stippling motions rather than swirling), but it looks a tad too white for my colouring. in the winter this effect is quite nice, though.
so far i haven't tried to apply it as a primer type product all over the face before foundation like Becca also recommends.
it's great that they packed this full with antioxidant ingredients and an SPF of 20, but please remember not to rely on this because you'd have to pack on quite a lot to get this spf. with a very thin amount mixed into foundation or even only local application (on cheekbones, brow bones, ... ) the spf doesn't help much. for me (with my oily skin i don't look good with shimmer all over) i don't see it as a skin care but a cosmetic product predominantly. although a wonderful one.

please don't get bored or be disappointed of it if you swatch it and don't see iridescent shimmer and sparkle. for a natural and beautiful highlight, it's not the sparkles and the frosty effect, but it's that subtle sheen that this product provides. i also thought: "and where is the highlighting effect?" when i first swatched it, but using it from time to time and especially in comparison to other liquid/cream highlighters, i learned to appreciate it more and more.
