Canmake Gokunobi Mascara
Hot on the heels of its top-selling Gokubuto volumising mascara, Canmake has introduced a lengthening version called Gokunobi in Glossy Black. It is a fibre-based film-type mascara that is supposed to help lengthen and separate the lashes, as well as keep them curled. It is smudgeproof and can be removed with warm water.
As mentioned earlier, Watsons currently has Gokunobi on sale at S$18.90, instead of the usual S$23.90. The promotion is on until 20 October.
The brush is "D-shaped". The curved side is supposed to help lift and separate the lashes, providing a better fit to the shape of the eye.
Gokunobi also contains three emollient ingredients to help keep the lashes moisturised: royal jelly extract, rosa centifolia flower extract and macadamia nut oil.
It is recommended that you first use the short straight side to apply the mascara from the lash roots to the tips in a zig-zag motion, brushing two to three times through the lashes. After the mascara has dried partially, use the long curved side to build length at the lash tips. Next, use the straight side to apply the mascara on the lashes on the lower eyelid. You can do so either holding the mascara vertically or horizontally.
Canmake also suggests two techniques to try. For a more almond-shaped look, you can add more volume to the lashes in the middle. Or try adding more layers at the outer upper and lower lashes.
I found that Gokunobi does a pretty good job of adding length, definition and some volume. The shade is jet black without any grey or ashy tones. Although it contains fibres, I did not experience any fibres flaking off and falling into my eyes or on my cheeks over more than 10 hours of wear.
It does take quite a bit of layering to build up the length but the good thing about Gokunobi is that it doesn't start to clump even after repeated layering. The mascara dries quite quickly and is not overly wet like some other brands. At the end of the day, my lashes were still curled, but this may have more to do with the Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base that I used under Gokunobi.
For this look, I used Urban Decay Primer Potion, POP Beauty Smoky Rose Wallet, Cosme Decorte AQ Makeup Base 01 (Moist), Face Powder N 001 and Rouge Supreme BE355 topped with Paul & Joe Lipgloss N #4, NARS Orgasm Blush, Benefit Erase Paste #1 Fair, Heroine Make Smooth Liquid Liner and K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow 24h 01.
Here's the ingredients list for Gokunobi. The tube that I purchased from Watsons has an expiry date of June 2013.
